Immigration issues may seem complicated but they are not! We are here to help and give you the best advice throughout the process. To give you an example, below are the most common requirements related to the application of residency cards. Requirements may vary depending on each specific case.
All residency requests have a list of general requirements: Letter requesting residency, affiliation form, copy of passport, photographs, fingerprints, Consular registration, power of attorney, government fees, and most importantly: birth certificate and delinquency or criminal records duly notarized and with an Apostille. All documents that are not in Spanish should be translated.
There are also specific requirements for the type of residency you want to request, as follows:
Retiree (Pensioned) Temporary Residency Card (valid for 2 years and can be subsequently renewed)
· Proof of Retiree income (orFund) issued by the pension provider, of at least US$1,000.00 monthly (it can come from various sources).
· Applicant can claim residency for their dependants, be the spouse and/or children.
· Each dependants residency will be filed separately and you will need to provide the same general requirements as the person requesting residency.
Investor Temporary Residency Card (valid for 2 years and can be subsequently renewed)
· Proof of investment of at least US$200,000.00 in a Costa Rican property or business.
· The applicant cannot have an employment income.
· Applicant can claim residency for their dependants, be the spouse and/or children.
· Each dependants residency will be filed separately and you will need to provide the same general requirements as the person requesting residency.
Rentista- or Fixed Income Temporary Residency Card (valid for 2 years and can be subsequently renewed)
· Proof of a fixed monthly income of US$2,500.00 for two years- US$60,000.00 total, which shall be deposited in an approved bank account or trust (in your country or in Costa Rica)
· Or proof of a fixed monthly income of US$2,500.00 for interest payments, royalties, dividends, and others, but it should not be from employment income.
· The applicant cannot have an employment income.
· Applicant can claim residency for their dependants, be the spouse and/or children.
· Each dependants residency will be filed separately and you will need to provide the same general requirements as the person requesting residency.
Temporary Residency Card for Spouse of a Costa Rican citizen (valid for 1 year and can be subsequently renewed; after the 3rd year you can apply for Permanent Residency)
· If you are married to a CostaRican citizen you can apply for a temporary Residency Card.
· Immigration Department will need proof of relationship (for spouse) which can include: photographs (wedding and events), proof of relationship and home coexistence, others.
· The applicant can have an income for employment.
Permanent Residency Card for Parents of a Costa Rican citizen
· Proof of kinship (birth certificate)
· The applicant can have an income for employment.
Permanent Residency Card
· Can be requested after 3years of having a Temporary Residency Card
· The applicant can have an income for employment or have a business.
